With event 50 now in progress, the entry lists continue to draw top players

Entry lists for the past few events at the World Series of Poker have continued to attract most of the famous names in poker, and many of them have been ignominiously despatched in first or second day action as they go after the money and the bracelets, often against unfamiliar names.

Event 46: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six-Handed Championship is another event that will need an additional day to decide the million dollar winner at this year's World Series of Poker. On Wednesday going into the early hours of Thursday the ten level rule was applied to shut down the third day action with two players still slogging away in the heads up.

Joe Ebanks and Chris Moorman will return Thursday to continue their epic tussle for the bracelet and a first prize worth $1,158,481, with Moorman holding a massive lead on 11,015,000 against Ebanks's 3,215,000.

The third day started with 22 survivors from an original first day field of 474 that contained many of the best professionals in the business. As the day wore on notable names heading for the exit proliferated, including David Benefield, Chris Klodnicki, Greg Dyer, and the current 2025 World Series of Poker Player of the Year leader; Ben Lamb.

By the time the final table was reached around 10pm Vegas time the cashes were already substantial, ranging from ninth place finisher Nick Grippo who took home $73,695 to third placed Bertrand Grospellier who collected a check for $447,074.

Thursday's runner up prize, which looks as if it may go to Ebanks on present chip counts, will be $716,282, with the winner claiming the first prize of $1,158,481 and the bracelet.

Mike Sowers, Taylor Paur and Tristan Wade busted out in sixth, fifth and fourth positions respectively as the game moved into the early hours of Thursday morning.

Event 47: $2,500 Omaha 8 / Stud 8 was won by Owais Ahmed in the early hours of Thursday morning after a tough three days of action, for which he earned $225,955 and a WSOP bracelet - his first.

In a heads up with the respected pro Michael Mizrachi, Ahmed managed to grind his opponent down in the last thirty minutes of the final level for the day, sending Mizrachi to the exit with a second placing prize of $158,148.

It was no mean achievement with a third day roster that included Richard Ashby, Barry Greenstein, Abe Mosseri and Scotty Nguyen among the 21 players who made it into the last day after besting an original field of 450 players.

Event 48: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em concluded its second day early hours of Thursday morning with 30 survivors remaining from the massive initial field of 2,713. Sebastian Winkler holds the chip lead on 1,156,000, chased by Matt Stout on 1,062,000

The second day started with 370 players after a hectic first day in which the huge entry field was drastically thinned out, costing many top players their buy-in as they were eliminated, among them David Singer, Jonathan Little, James Mackey, Chino Rheem, and Sorel Mizzi, who busted in one of the last hands of the night.

Not in the top ten but still in the remaining small field are Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Mike DeMichele, making for an interesting third day as this event nears a conclusion.

Event 49: $2,500 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball also completed its second day with Jason Mercier in the chip lead and clearly looking for a second bracelet in this 42nd WSOP.

He has already enjoyed cashes this year in the $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball (No-Limit) where he finished seventh; the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship and the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Championship, along with a third career bracelet win in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha / Six Handed.

He leads a field of 13, all that remains of a starting list of 310 after two long days of expert poker.

105 players returned to the tables Wednesday mid-afternoon Vegas time to compete for the $189,919 first place money and the bracelet. There are still some formidable competitors in the running, such as Eli Elezra, WPT Championship Winner Scott Seiver), Shawn Buchanan, 2025 PCA Main Event Champ Galen Hall, 2025 $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. Champion David Bach, Jon Turner and Justin Bonomo.

The second day casualties list reads like a compendium of red hot players and includes Mike Matusow, Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer, Tom Dwan, Daniel Negreanu, Pat Pezzin, Gavin Smith, and Robert Williamson III.

Thursday resumption is sure to herald some exciting and entertaining poker.

Event 50: $5,000 Triple Chance No-Limit Hold'em completed its first day of ten levels early Thursday morning, having started with a field of 817 generating a prize pool of $3.83 million.

When the chips were bagged at level 10, ending the first day's action, Mark Herm was leading on 148,400, tied with Vladimir Mefodichev (148,000) and with UK ace James Akenhead only 4,000 chips behind them.

It's early days yet, and with 297 players still active - many of them great exponents of the game - anything could happen.

As we draw closer to the main event this year, this competition was in much demand, attracting an entry list that included Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Humberto Brenes, Tony Dunst, J.C. Tran, Vanessa Selbst, Shaun Deeb and Jonathan Duhamel - sadly all eliminated.

Eight of last year's main event November Nine finalists were spotted among the tables when the day started.

The second day's competitive line-up will include Andy Black, Johnny Lodden, Lex Veldhuis, Josh Arieh, Gavin Smith, Carlos Mortensen, Jake Cody, Barry Greenstein and the Hachem brothers, Joe and Tony.

The money bubble bursts at position 81, so there's plenty of action still instore for the railbirds and players alike.
