The often controversial young player takes home Euro 1.64 million

The frequently controversial but now hopefully settled internet and live tourney poker pro Justin Bonomo (26) proved he has what it takes Wednesday, taking home the main prize in the Pokerstars and Monte Carlo European Poker Tour Super High Roller tourney against formidable opposition, and boosting his already impressive career earnings by a further Euro 1.64 million.

The young pro had to work hard at it, investing Euro 200,000 in re-entries, but it was worth it in the end. On the final table he largely controlled the action, personally busting out five of his opponents.

The final table consisted of Bonomo and a truly quality line-up of Eugene Katchalov, WSOP champ Jonathan Duhamel, Daniel Negreanu, Tobias Reinkemeier, Bertrand Grospellier, Patrik Antonius and Masa Kagawa.

Only six would be in the generous cash bubble, making for intense competition, but in the end it was Katchalov and Duhamel who went home empty-handed.

The remaining six all did well, with Bonomo scoring best as the winner, followed by his heads up runner-up Tobias Reinkemeier on Euro 1,064,000, but even sixth-placed Negreanu added Euro 310,000 to his bank balance.

The heads up battle between Bonomo and Reinkemeier was one for the books, with Bonomo holding 9.6 million chips against his opponent's 1.68 million, but that did not stop Reinkemeier from putting up a spirited if brief resistance.

For Bonomo it was the high earning point of a successful career that has so far seen his total live tourney earnings soar to over $5 million; his previous best finish was worth $413,165 almost three years ago.
