Nguyen, Jachtmann and Bardah claim bracelets

With this year's World Series of Poker now almost two-thirds complete, three more winners' bracelets were claimed as the weekend began, with Dung Nguyen winning event 38, Jan-Peter Jachtmann event 39 and Ronnie Bardah number 40.

Nguyen revealed after his victory in the $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em competition that he had not planned on joining the 2,533 other entrants, but had been persuaded to do so by a friend who ponied up half the buy-in.

It turned out to be a profitable decision, delivering Nguyen's first bracelet and main prize money of $607,200 the reward.

Nguyen faced a final table that included some inspiring names: Theo Tran, Bahman Jahanguiri, Blair Hinkle, David Pham, Kristijonas Andrulis, Zachary Korik, Jeffrey Manza and Tyler Patterson.

When Bahman Jahanguiri was dismissed in third place for $267,241 the scene was set for a heads up pitting Nguyen against experienced WSOP veteran Theo Tran, but Nguyen maintained a chip lead throughout and proved unbeatable, sending Tran to the cashier and a runner up pay-out of $377,565.

For Tran it was another disappointment; the pro has made it to four final tables at previous WSOP tournaments, ending up as runner up at two of and he still has not achieved bracelet status.

The German poker magazine publisher and amateur pokerhead, Jan-Peter Jachtmann, can take pride in beating the respected poker pro Andrew Brown in the heads up of event 39 - $10,000 buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha championship after outlasting a field of 293 entrants for the event, many of them very recognisable names in the game.

He will also be pleased to put on his first WSOP bracelet and collect a hefty first prize check for $661,000 for his outstanding poker and he did it in style, completing the final table and heads up in just three hours.

Jachtmann said he had flown over from Germany specifically for the event because POL was his favourite game, and one that he played in cash games back home on a regular basis.

Among the entrants that Jachtmann survived in the event were Ville Wahlbeck, Jason Mercier and Sammy Farha, and his final table looked like this:

Andrew Brown

Steven Silverman

Micah Smith

Andy Seth

Benjamin Sage

Nikolai Yakovenko

Jason Mercier

Joe Kushner

It all came down to a heads up against Andrew Brown, a tough 30-year-old New York internet and tournament pro with impressive career earnings and a talent for PLO.

Jachtmann had the chip advantage, but both players had large stacks, and it looked as if a prolonged struggle was inevitable. It wasn't.

In two huge hands with some close calls for the two fearless and aggressive players - one of them an all-in with $1.7 million at stake - Jachtmann managed to pull off a spectacular win against a very worthy opponent, sending him home with the runner up prize - still his biggest career win yet - of $408,393.

Massachusetts poker pro Ronnie Bardah won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, and his biggest career cash yet, in event 40 - $2,500 buy-in Limit Hold'em Six Handed after surviving a field of 302 entrants and a hardass final table.

The level 26 heads up saw Bardah pitted against 26-year-old Californian internet and live tournament pro Marco Johnson - famous for his role in exposing the Absolute Poker scandal - with Bardah holding a more than 3 to 1 advantage which Johnson was unable to overcome.

The Californian had to be content with a runner up prize of $112,525, leaving the main prize of $182,and that to Bardah.

Other pay-outs in the event were:

Vincent Gironda 3rd Place ($73,040)

Brent Wheeler $48,828

Sorel Mizzi $33,541

Hans Minocha $23,648
