Francisco Da Costa Santos wins a bracelet for Portugal

Portuguese player Francisco Da Costa Santos (36) won his country's first World Series of Poker bracelet at the 2025 WSOPE over the weekend, besting Spanish player Ana Marquez in the heads up to win the Euro 83,275 main prize in the Euro 1,650 buy-in Six-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha event.

Santos and Marquez were the survivors of an entry field of 206, along with other final tablers that included ace player Andrew Lichtenberger, Aku Joentausta, Petteri Kalenius and Nikolay Volper.

The heads up was a brief affair, lasting under 15 minutes; although Santos started with a 3 to 1 disadvantage he managed to turn that around in short order to eliminate his last opponent.

Marquez, a member of the Pokerstars pro team, had to be content with a second placing pay day of Euro 52,443.

The voluble Santos kept players and railbirds alike entertained with a continuous flow of trash talk during the game, and boasted that he has only been playing PLO for four months.

Poker is still very new in my country, said Santos. We do not have so many players right now. But I think it's going to catch on and be more popular. There are a lot of younger players now who are starting to get interested in the game.
