Andrew Robl's gamble on having another try pays off handsomely

The Aussie Millions High Roller event no game for sissies with a buy-in of $100,000, but poker pro Andrew Robl re-upped - the only player to do so this year - and the expensive gamble paid off; Robl finished in first place to claim the $1 million main prize and a handsome ROI.

21 players entered the competition this year, including hard-as-nails successful pros like Vanessa Selbst, Dan Shak and Tobias Reinkemeier. By the time the final table was reached Andrew and the above trio were joined by Igor Kurganov, Masa Kagawa and Niklas Heniecker, with only the top four spots destined to cash.

After two days of highly competitive action, the heads up duo was Robl vs. Russian ace Igor Kurganov, with Robl holding the lead and using it to at first dominate and then defeat his opponent, sending him home with a runner up prize of $610,000.

Masa Kagawa claimed the third place and $320,000, and Dan Shak finished fourth on $237,000.
