US ace shows them how down South

US poker pro Michael Mizrachi added to his $14 million in career earnings and his professional reputation this week when he travelled to South Africa to play in the World Series of Poker Circuit South Africa main event, beating a primarily local field to head for home with the first prize of $101,267 and a winner's ring.

Mizrachi already holds an impressive three WSOP bracelets and has been victorious in two major World Poker Tour competitions.

The Emerald Casino in South Africa saw Mizrachi and 115 other entrants register for the $3,300 buy-in event, generating a prize pool worth $380,000.

Among the international stars at the event was Scotty Nguyen, although he did not make it to the final table.

The field played down to a final table which comprised Mizrachi and Karl Myburgh, Markus Faurie, Jarred Solomon, Kinesh Pather, Kenny Morgan, Menesh Keshav, Eric Brand and Warren Zackey, but the US pro dominated the action, personally despatching six of his opponents

Mizrachi's heads up with final survivor Karl Myburgh was relatively brief but nevertheless exciting, and resulted in Myburgh picking up a second placing prize of $62,590.
