If you've read the first two chapters of this beginner's guide, you have a general idea of
what it's like to be an online poker player. At the risk of repeating myself, I will once
again comment on how extremely important it is to be able to manage your bankroll. Sure, you
may ignore it and go on to win a bunch of money anyway but in the end, it will come back to
bite you. It is, and always will be, the #1 important thing for any online poker player.
There are a few more things I'd like to add, a few more pointers and suggestions.
Did you read the books I recommended in the previous chapter? Were you able to take in some of most of
the info? Well good, then it's time to get a few more. I suggest these:
» No Limit Hold'Em: Theory and Practice by Sklansky, Miller » Theory of Poker by Sklansky » Poker Essays by Malmuth » Hold'Em Wisdom For All Players by Daniel Negreanu » Find These Books On Amazon... These are more advanced books but again, it's not a bible, you don't have to read and understand everything. There's always a good book out there for you, just buy or lend the ones you get your hands on and your game will improve.
So far we've only discussed No Limit Hold'Em and that for a reason. Probably 70-80% of
all cash games played in the world are No Limit ones, ergo, they are the easiest to find.
But there are other poker games and plenty of them. Some of the books listed touch games
like Stud, "Omaha", "Razz", "Triple Draw" and even more obscure ones such as "Badugi" and "Crazy
Pineapple"! When it comes to these games, my advice is the same. Read about them, try them and
discuss/analyze them afterwards. There no reason to stick to just one game, many of the successful
No Limit players know and play at least a handful more. Who knows, maybe you will like these
other online poker games better?!
Bonuses are free or extra money that online poker rooms give you and finding the right one is important
for a beginner. Spotting and recieving a good bonus can give you plenty of extra hours at the
tables and that will come in handy while learning the game. Look for bonuses with low wagering
requirements, like 'play xxx hands and recieve $xx free' or similar. It's a great opportunity to
boost your bankroll without really doing anyting except playing poker. And you were gonna do that
anyway so why not accept the extra cash thrown your way?
Online poker should be fun. It can be, why would millions of people play it if it wasn't? You will
most certainly have fun too if the mood is right. Don't play online poker when drunk, irritated, annoyed,
depressed, in a hurry, distracted, angry, stressed or otherwise unable to enjoy it. Not only will
it feel like a drag but you'll also lose all your money. That is a fact!
With these words I bid you "adieu" and hope to see you at the poker tables. Good luck! |
