into all the big name poker events that you see splashed all over your TV screens and in the press.
The most notable ones are the "World Series Of Poker" (WSOP), the "World Poker Tour" (WPT) and it's
European equivalent, the originally titled "European Poker Tour" (EPT). For the
uninitiated, the WPT and the EPT specialise in Texas Hold 'Em poker, while the WSOP covers 50 or so
of the most popular poker games, including Texas HE. For serious players
and newbies alike, there is a certain allure of playing a major offline tournament under the glare
of the spotlights, or the glare of Tony G, and playing against the big names of poker who,
obviously, we can all smash into oblivion with our superior techniques!
So logic dictates that while we can splash out a few thousand dollars to buy a seat at one of the name poker tournaments, it makes far more sense to sit at home with a coffee and play on the good old 486 in the back room and win ourselves a trip to Las Vegas.
